Field Service in the Cloud?

Cloud Computing?  What does this mean?

Cloud computing is the delivery of computing as a service rather than a product, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices as a metered service over a network cloud (typically the Internet). Courtesy of Wikipedia

Will it work for my field service business?

Field Services are an ideal fit for "cloud applications" because most field workers are performing jobs remotely and they need to access job information from anywhere.  Universal access via the internet and the ability to collect data offline with an "App" is a compelling business case for field service companies to start using cloud based applications.

Cloud offers lower cost than buying "on premise" software.

By utilizing software as a service via the cloud, your company can utilize limited IT resources for other projects. Your entry costs are considerably lower, typically, you pay an initial implementation fee then a monthly subscription fee based on users of the system. This pay as you go model is much cheaper than paying for traditional software licenses and the implementation projects required to roll out the application.

Real time data improves business performance.

Cloud based systems are designed for near real time feedback from the field. You are no longer waiting for job documentation to be faxed, shipped, or delivered when the field worker returns to an office. You can dispatch and retrieve job information whenever an internet connection is available. This means you can start your job reviews and invoicing process much faster than before.
