Smart Client Systems

Many organizations have a distributed workforce that is only occasionally connected to the corporate network. This presents unique challenges when delivering a software application that should operate offline in the same manner that it operates when online. LiquidFrameworks has solved these problems and built a comprehensive framework to deliver this type of unique software system.

Smart Clients, or occasionally-connected systems are a class of application that brings strengths of both the Desktop and Web to bear:

  • Complex and large data sets available
  • Seamless connection and data synchronization
  • Powerful interface controls of a locally-hosted system
  • Easy deployment and update

LiquidFrameworks has pioneered development using these systems.  If you have a business process that must occur in a communications-challenged environment, or cannot tolerate downtime due to disconnection, bring it to us and see how we can apply the lessons we've learned and our smart-client application framework.

FieldPro

Our flagship solution is based on this architecture.  FieldPro solution is deployed on a ruggedized tablet PC ideally suited for the harsh well site environment.  The field ticket management module is built on “Smart Client” technology.  Smart Client applications are deployed as easily as a browser-based application, but provide the rich user interface features found in a windows client application.

Our system provides data replication and synchronization services such that catalog, contract, customer and well information are available to the Field Engineer on their tablet PC even when the application is not connected to the network.

We refer to this as working in a “disconnected state.”  When the engineer plugs into an internet connection, the application “wakes up” and establishes a secure connection to the home servers and replicates system data such as contract, catalogs, customers and wells.  In addition, field tickets that have been created or modified are replicated with the home office.

Smart Client for InfoPath

Another interesting solution that we've built using our framework is our InfoPath Smart Client.  Instead of saving InfoPath XML forms in local files that have to be emailed or interactively synched by a user, we've built a smart-client data layer and local web server which allows the InfoPath from to access master data.
