Chip Davis

Chip Davis is a managing partner at Houston Ventures.  Mr. Davis joined Houston Venture’s predecessor in 1991 and launched Houston Ventures Fund I in 2004 and Houston Ventures Fund II in 2006. Prior to joining Houston Ventures, Chip served in the Small Business Audit division of PriceWaterhouse and the Tax Division of Arthur Andersen. Chip has over 15 years of experience investing in early to growth-stage technology businesses, a deep energy industry network, and extensive deal structuring experience. Chip also sits on the board of directors at RigNet Communications, NuPhysicia, and Zilliant.  He is a graduate of Washington & Lee University and is a CPA in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Trent Derr

Trent Derr has held leadership roles in the software and technology industries for more than 25 years. Mr. Derr was President and CEO of Syntex Management Systems, an Operational Risk Management software company, where he successfully grew the company’s dominant market share in the energy and chemical verticals. Syntex was acquired by IHS (NYSE: IHS) in the fall of 2010. Prior to Syntex, Mr. Derr was Chief Operating Officer for P2 Energy Solutions, a leading technology provider to upstream energy companies. He was Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder of Novoforum, a supply chain integration company providing software as a service (SaaS) solutions to energy and chemical companies. In addition, Mr. Derr has held senior positions with SAP, Oracle, Software 2000, and PriceWaterhouse.

Travis Parigi

Travis Parigi is the Founder and Chief Operating Officer at LiquidFrameworks.  Travis focuses on growing our software platform and evangelizing its benefits to customers.  He plays an active role in our technology, architecture and overall product vision.  Prior to LiquidFrameworks, Travis was a founding member and served as a Senior Engagement Manager for Emerging, Inc., an e-Business professional services firm funded by Austin Ventures and Benchmark Capital with offices across the US.  While at Emerging, Travis successfully managed and delivered multiple projects for several clients in the B2C and B2B space using a variety of technologies.  In 1994, Travis joined BSG Alliance, a global professional services firm focused on delivering software solutions to multiple industries.  BSG was acquired by Michigan-based CBSI in 1999.  Travis maintains a strong knowledge of software architecture, mobile technology and holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Greg Peters

Greg Peters has a long and successful track record of leading and growing business application software companies. Greg is currently the CEO at Zilliant, where he oversees the company’s operations, including its strategic direction, product planning and development, and financial management.  Prior to Zilliant, he served as President and CEO of Vignette, the leading content management company and one of the most successful initial public offerings in 1999.  He also served as president and chief executive officer of Logic Works, Inc. and controller and chief financial officer for Micrografx, Inc. Greg sits on the board of directors at Planview, and is an accomplished public speaker who has appeared at numerous leading industry events.

Jim Newell

Mr. Newell joined Houston Ventures in 2010. He previously was a Partner with Altira Group LLC from 2000 to 2010. From 1994 to 2000, he was Partner in Aspect Management Corporation making venture investments in upstream oil and gas projects and early to growth-stage energy technology companies. From 1976 through 1994, Jim was a financial executive in the oil and gas industry, specializing in mergers and acquisitions and public financings.
